KABC ~ 2018 Legislative Summary

Thanks to the sustained work of advocates and key legislators, four new laws will address abuse – and abuse prevention – for older Kansans. KABC advocated throughout the legislative session for the new protections these laws offer. Advocates efforts were critical for these wins:

• Electronic Video Monitoring in Adult Care Homes
• Emergency Medical Services (EMS) personnel are now added to the list of persons who are required or mandated to report suspected abuse of adults
• Physical abuse, unreasonable punishment or unreasonable confinement added to the list of elder victim crimes
• Employee Background Check and fingerprinting of all employees working with vulnerable persons
